Characters and books

  • Hedge Honcho and Flower Ranger

Colourful and full of life, our Hedge Honcho and Flower Ranger are among the latest additions to the Hobbledown team. Their favourite time of the year is Wildflowers, our festival of sound and colour in September, and they will always be the first to get the party started!
  • Old Tom

Old Tom can be a bit grumpy, is always tired and doesn’t talk much, but wait until you meet his friends! Old Tom keeps one of Rumpletump’s eggs safe in a basket and if you’re lucky he might let you have a look. You might even get a glimpse of Rumpletump himself, or Fern the fairy who is having a tea party in the box!
  • Skibblers

From a faraway land, the Skibblers have arrived at Hobbledown intent on causing mischief of the gooiest kind! Wherever they tread they leave behind a foul smelling trail of ‘Skibbler Glime’. With hooked noses and bulging eyes they really do cause mayhem and trouble at Hobbledown.
  • Fern

A British Grig fairy that lives in the Quercus Oak. Much loved by all the Hobblers, her small wooden tree house is often visited by Huck in search of freshly baked cakes and treats!
  • Rumpletump

Having grown up in Hobbledown as a baby rump, Rumpletump grew so big that the Hobblers needed to find him a home all of his own. He now lives in the Copse surrounded by magical crystals that keep him safe and happily tucked away. With dragon-like features he looks more ferocious then he really is.
  • Sludgebucket

Full of muddles, riddles and delicious rhymes, this lovable Hobbler is a little peculiar yet bucket loads of fun. He lives on a Sludgepile full of strange things he finds around Hobbledown and can pop up in the most unexpected places
  • Professor Topperpot

As Chief Hobbler, the Professor is very old and wise. He is never seen without his famous top hat and crooked wooden stick. He is always offering the young Hobblers advice on creature care and often shows them how to make animal kites which they have fun with when out in the fields.
  • Tipp

Tipp is best friends with Huck and Eliza.  He always carries a telescope which is perfect in case he spots any unwanted visitors – like slimy Skibblers! He loves to invent weird and wonderful things but he is happiest when he is looking after the Hobbledown animals.
  • Huck

Huck often finds himself in trouble without even realising it. His trademark horned-hat and mischievous grin make him a firm Hobbledown favourite and you can read all about his adventures in our very first book, Hobbledown.
  • Eliza

Very sensible and sometimes bossy, this red-haired Hobbler spends a lot of her time singing to the animals and tending the Hobblepatch where she looks after flowers and vegetables. You can recognize Eliza from the peacock feathers she often wears in her hair.

Hobbledown - the book

Hobbledown comes alive in a magical children’s book written by Angela Kecojevic and beautifully illustrated by the talented Lyn Stone. Under the creative vision of chief hobblers Nick de Candole and Richard Farley, Hobbledown combined reality with fantasy to produce this funtastic tale to be enjoyed by families time and time again.

When Huck steps into a puddle of green glime it can only mean one thing … trouble. Where has Fern disappeared to and what is that strange tapping sound beneath Hobbledown? Join the Hobblers on this stomping great adventure as they battle with Skibblers, visit potty Potenesia and avoid the noggins of one very large resident!

‘I read Hobbledown with my children and we all thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful and wacky world of Hobbledown that AJ Kecojevic has created. The quirky rhyming text, the crazy creatures and the bonkers geography all help to create a modern, yet classic tale. We look forward to more adventures in Hobbledown from this exciting new writer.’

Read what some happy customers have to say

We had heard some great things about Hobbledown and our experience there didn’t disappoint. With so much for our 5 year old to enjoy both inside and outdoors including all the animals to see, our only issue was squeezing everything into the time we had. Customer service was great and we felt it offered excellent value for money for a day out with little ones. We will definitely be back.
